Prof Wei-Jun Jean Yeung has commenced a three-year joint appointment with ARI and the Department of Sociology with effect from 15 July 08.
Prof Yeung is a co-principal investigator of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, one of the longest running social science panel surveys. She serves as an international academic advisor to the Institute of Social Science Studies in Peking University. She is secretary/treasurer for the section of Children and Youth of the American Sociological Association. She is affiliated with the China House in New York University, the National Poverty Center of the School of Public Policy in the University of Michigan, and the RAND Policy Research Corporation. Her current research and teaching focus on intergenerational studies, family and children’s well-being and policies, social inequality and China’s economic and demographic transition. Her recent publications include ethnic disparities in children's educational attainment and social-psychological development, the effects of poverty and family wealth on children’s well-being, and family time use. She has served on the editorial board for the Journal of Marriage and Family and Child Development and on scientific review committees for government agencies.
Prof Yeung has received numerous awards, including those from the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and National Institute on Aging. Her international experiences include advising on large-scale surveys in Europe (Generation and Gender by the United Nations for Economic Commission for Europe, and British Panel Household Study) and in Asia (Family Dynamic Study in Taiwan, Chinese Family Panel Study in Peking University, and the Healthy Children and Adolescent Study in Nanjing, China).
She holds a joint appointment with Dept of Sociology, NUS. |
