This conference will bring together scholars from a range of academic disciplines, including history, anthropology, political science and law, as well as practitioners in Indonesia. The conference will examine the regional dynamics and lasting effects of the mass killings in Indonesia in 1965-1966. It will include panels on the 30th of September Movement, the roles of the military and mass organisations in the violence, regional studies of detention and mass killing, communist resistance to the pogroms, the impact of the violence on women and families, and contested views of the past in contemporary Indonesia.
