Sustainable Future Cities Research Cluster Leader (Assoc. Prof to Prof Level) A Joint Appointment in the Department of Architecture and Asia Research Institute (ARI)
BACKGROUND
Asia has been experiencing rapid and often uncontrolled changes in many areas over the past four decades. Economic growth, while generally desired, has also resulted in much environmental degradation and socio-cultural discontinuities. Asian cities, the site of these tumultuous changes in the age of capitalist globalization, are caught between urbanization and the demands of sustainability. The "Sustainable Future Cities" research initiative at ARI is targeted at examining emergent urban situations in which social-cultural and environmental sustainability require urgent attention.
ROLE
Your role would be to champion and lead activities in research and teaching on the socio-cultural and environmental dimensions of sustainability in Asian cities, such as eco-urbanism, cultural preservation, and quality of social life. The following is an inclusive list of research expertise that would be pertinent:
sustainable architecture, urban management & governance, urban planning, urban design, urban place-making, land-use management, transport and communication modes, the interface between technology and society (for example, in relation to emerging environmental technologies, and water and energy resource use), industrial and landscape ecology, economics and finances of sustainability of quality human health and social life, regeneration of heritage areas in extant cities.
